Western Health Advantage and Providence Announce Expansion into Humboldt

Western Health Advantage and Providence Medical Network Expands to Bring Access to Care to Humboldt County Residents

SACRAMENTO, CA (October 1, 2021) – Western Health Advantage (WHA) and Providence Medical Network (PMN) announced today it will offer a choice of WHA health plans to small and large employer groups in Humboldt County.

Businesses in that region can now offer Western Health Advantage’s affordable provider-centric HMO plans to employees. With coverage starting on October 1, 2021, WHA HMO plans enable access to Providence physicians, associated with Providence St. Joseph Hospital Eureka and Providence Redwood Memorial Hospital Fortuna.

“Our relationship with Providence is built on a solid foundation of collaboration with its clinical providers and hospitals, enabling our members to leverage a shared expertise that makes health care more affordable and convenient,” said Garry Maisel, President and CEO of Western Health Advantage. “Health plans and health systems working closely together allow more people to get the care they need, at nearby locations they recognize and trust.”

The Providence Medical Network (formerly St. Joseph Health System) offers access to primary care physicians (PCPs) and specialists in the region. In addition, Providence clinical providers in Humboldt county are now available to current WHA members, including families with dependents who reside in the area (i.e. those attending college at Humboldt State).

“Providence Medical Group has grown rapidly in the Humboldt community in recent years as we strive to improve access to care for local residents. We are excited about the expansion of WHA and are actively planning to recruit more primary care providers and specialists to our network in the coming months, with additional providers being credentialed and available to members in early 2022,” said Bob Just, Regional Chief Executive, Providence Medical Foundation Northern California.

WHA offers a range of affordable health plans, designed to fit an employer’s diverse health care needs. Members across Northern California have access to a broad network of exceptional doctors and hospitals, including Hill Physicians Medical Group, Dignity Health’s Mercy Medical Group and Woodland Clinic, Meritage Medical Network, NorthBay Healthcare and Providence Medical Network.
