You may still be able to get coverage.
If you have experienced a qualifying life event, you can newly enroll in a health plan outside of the open-enrollment period. If you are currently enrolled and experience a qualifying life event, you can change your coverage or choose a new plan. This special enrollment period lasts 60 days after the qualifying life event occurs. When enrolling for coverage, you will need to provide the qualifying life event and the date of the event.
Note: If 60 days pass and you do not sign up for health coverage, you will have to wait until the next open enrollment period.
Covered California has announced a new, short-term qualifying life event (QLE) that will allow eligible individuals to enroll through a SEP from February 18 through June 30, 2020. This SEP allows individuals who just learned about the new state subsidy or penalty to enroll in coverage.
State subsidy is only available when you enroll through Covered California. To avoid the tax penalty you can enroll through Covered California or direct with WHA. If you are enrolling direct with WHA, please use the "other" option and type in, "Tax Penalty" or "COVID-19" when asked about your qualifying event.
