Western Health Advantage Welcomes CalPERS
Local healthcare plan opens to members of the California Public Employees’ Retirement System

Western Health Advantage (WHA) has been accepted by the California Public Employees’ Retirement System (CalPERS) to offer health coverage to CalPERS members during open enrollment in September, with coverage starting in January 2018. WHA has created a dedicated team to provide personalized customer service for CalPERS members, with knowledge specific to state and public agency employees.

“We are grateful for the opportunity to offer health plans that meet the needs of CalPERS members,” said Garry Maisel, CEO, Western Health Advantage. “We believe our business model of emphasizing choice and flexibility, value and customer service makes us an attractive option when choosing a health plan for 2018.”

WHA previously serviced CalPERS members for six years until 2008, and will now resume the relationship with an expanded service area, adding Marin, Napa and Sonoma counties for the first time to CalPERS members. This expansion allows CalPERS members from all or parts of nine counties in Northern California to select health coverage from WHA. The health plan offers members an impressive network of 510 primary care physicians to choose from in the Hill Physician Medical Group, Mercy Medical Group, Woodland Clinic Medical Group, NorthBay Healthcare and Meritage Medical Network.

“Hill Physicians values Western Health Advantage as a provider-owned, non-profit health plan focusing on quality and affordability,” said David S. Joyner, CEO, Hill Physicians Medical Group. “This new competitive offering to CalPERS members provides Hill with a great opportunity to serve CalPERS members.”

With more than 130,000 members, WHA is an affordable health plan with providers in Colusa, El Dorado, Marin, Napa, Placer, Sacramento, Solano, Sonoma and Yolo counties.
