WHA Named Healthiest Employer

Published: April 27, 2017

Western Health Advantage is the top-ranked Healthiest Employer in the “small” company category (150-499 employees), as chosen by the Sacramento Business Journal

To win this award, a company must demonstrate innovation and leadership in its wellness programs and be in Sacramento, Placer, Yolo or El Dorado County. WHA and other finalists in companies of every size were recognized at an awards luncheon on April 27th.

“At Western Health Advantage we encourage our employees to be healthy,” said Garry Maisel, Western Health Advantage President and CEO. “As a health plan, we strive to lead by example. We highlight ‘health’ in Western Health Advantage and believe our wellness program brings increased exercise and fun in our work place.”

WHA offers employees many wellness opportunities, including a wellness program with challenges, free gym memberships, a wellness library, and healthy snacks. The whaFIT program – short for Wellness, Health + Action FIT – emphasizes keeping activities simple and fun, with employee input. The program also brings employees from different departments together, leading to better work relationships.

Overall, 18 companies were recognized for their programs to promote employee health and wellness. Partnering with Healthiest Companies LLC, an Indianapolis-based research firm that focuses on wellness, the Sacramento Business Journal conducted company surveys and completed an extensive review in order to identify award winners and finalists. Companies were ranked and finalists were chosen in each size category.
